Tourism is going to be the region's biggest goodie. New North Caucasus resorts will unify ski resorts of the five republics and Krasnodar Province. The project totals about 450 billion rubles, as it was presented at St. Petersburg Economic Forum. Each budget ruble is planned to attract six business rubles. It will take a strong partnership relation between the Government and business. The project is expected to lure the numerous unemployed to join the business instead of joining terrorist groups.
Ahmed Bilalov, the senior vice speaker of the Kuban parliament, presented the project to Dmitri Medvedev, President of the Russian Federation. Mr. Bilalov had already created a few hotel-resorts in Russia in Adigeya Republic, so he could implement the experience in the Caucases. Alexander Chloponin, President's Representative in the North Caucasus Federal Region, said that was not a pioneering project. He said there had long been major brands in the region, including, but not limited to, Arhyz and Kazbek.
Dmitri Medvedev was quick to accept the idea. 'No need to enlarge upon it – this is a very interesting project' -- he took the floor. First and foremost, he said, tourism would be the cross-issue for all the republics. 'Today, each republic has its own industry and agriculture and its own bundle of problems, but there is no universal concept,' he reminded the audience. 'Let's do the job,'-- he gave the go-ahead.
