The mausoleum of Mao Zedong is Beijing's most visited place. At the entrance, tourists are greeted by a huge 3.5-meter-tall statue of the Great Helmsman, to the foot of which people lay flowers. The atmosphere of this place is more like in a temple: here it is forbidden to talk loudly, take pictures or even stop. Strict guards at the entrance divide people into two streams, sending them to the central hall where they can see the leader's body covered by a red flag. Visiting the mausoleum only lasts about one minute, not counting the time spent in a queue. For many travelers, feeling the presence of the great Mao and touching the history become important points of visiting the capital of the People's Republic of China.
