Sightseeing in Binz - what to see. Complete travel guide

Germany has many hidden gems that are not widely known to the general public. The resort town of Binz is one of them. This is an incredibly beautiful place that cordially welcomes its guests. The resort is the most popular destination on the Baltic Sea island of Rügen. At the moment, the settlement doesn’t have the town status. The charming resort is situated between Prorer Wiek Bay and the Schmachter See Lake. In short, the surrounding area is incredibly beautiful, and the local air is fresh and clean.
Who created this resort paradise and when did this happen? First mentions of Binz date back to 1318 when a small settlement appeared in the County of Streu. Five centuries later, the settlement became famous as a resort town. The first guests arrived in 1860 and stayed at a local guesthouse. Ten years later, the new resort could accommodate already 80 guests. Year after year, Binz was growing in size. The town’s authorities built the first hotel in 1876. It was located close to the coast.
Binz kept growing, and new hotels were appearing in it. A greater number of guests started visiting this resort in order to enjoy a nice vacation together with their families, admire the beautiful local nature, and breathe the fresh sea air. The berth, which was six hundred meters long, was severely damaged several times due to natural cataclysms. However, it was restored every time. The latest reconstruction took place in 1994. Start your acquaintance with landmarks of the sea resort from the Granitz Hunting Lodge. This is a beautiful and unusual castle built in the mid-18th century. Just like many other castles in northern Germany, this building is a marvelous example of Renaissance style. Two hundred thousands of tourists visit this place of interest in order to step into the castle and get to the top of the central tower. The latter offers a mesmerizing view of the surroundings. It looks like the whole area is at your feet.
If the weather is fine, you will be able to see the area up to the nearby island in detail. The castle is built on a hill called Tempelberg, which means that this area was sacred in the past. Endless landscapes with hilly terrain, forests, fields, incredibly beautiful lakes and bays, parks with linden trees – the surrounding nature is enchanting and gorgeous. Many German painters and poets enjoy visiting Binz in order to admire local nature and create their new masterpieces.
Are you craving for peace and serenity? In this case, you need to head to Park der Sinne that is popular with both locals and guests of the resort. This is a truly fantastic area that is perfect for a leisure stroll in the shade of old trees. Starting from the moment when you enter the park, you will feel the charming and cozy atmosphere of this place. It is so easy to forget about all the troubles and stressful city life here. While enjoying a walk on a parkway, you will smell the scent of blooming flowers – there are always many different species of them in the park.
Park der Sinne hides an interesting monument – a stone harp. When looking at this sculpture, it often feels like a silent melody lingers in the air. The harp is approximately 1 meter tall, and it stands on a black square base. The instrument’s surface is smooth and has vertical holes that form some kind of key buttons. Push these buttons and you will hear unusual different sounds. If you like cycling, you will be excited to hear that there are special cycling trails in a picturesque area along the lake.
Consider visiting the museum of natural history during your stay in Binz. This venue is located in a gorgeous forest area. The unusual location makes a visit to this museum even more exciting. The venue has a viewing platform that offers spectacular views of the surrounding area. Moreover, it is a fantastic place to admire the beauty of the Baltic Sea and take memorable photographs. All visitors can use binoculars in order to see the surrounding area in detail.
The museum’s exhibition is dedicated to the history of numerous attractions in Binz. Don’t be lazy and get to the top of the multi-story observation platform. The Treetop Walk will take you higher than the forest top, so you can admire the 360-degree panoramic view without any obstacles. A spiral staircase with a total length of more than a kilometer gets to the top of the observation platform. Many tourists spend up to one hour getting to the top, but the spectacular view deserves the effort. It is easy to spend a couple of hours looking at the tremendous view and taking photographs. Even children enjoy visiting this place.
For tourists from many countries, it may be more comfortable to travel to Hamburg first and then take a train or bus to Binz. If you travel by bus, the ride will be approximately three and a half hours. A train ride will be a bit longer – four hours. It is also possible to fly to Rostock-Laage airport that is located 120 kilometers from Binz. There are also alternative ways to reach the resort town. A train from Stralsund will take you to the destination faster than in two hours, and a ride from Sassnitz will be even shorter – only fifty minutes.
