Sightseeing in Atlantic City - what to see. Complete travel guide

The East Coast of the United States is the location of Atlantic City that is a popular resort destination with numerous entertainments. It is the second most popular city for people who want to try their luck in gambling in casinos and slot machines. Besides numerous casinos, Atlantic City has many sandy beaches. Moreover, the coast of this city offers truly breathtaking ocean views. Having visited this Atlantic Ocean resort even once, you will fall in love with Atlantic City once and for always.
1854 is the year when the city near North America was founded. Atlantic City is situated on Absecon Island. Perhaps, charming nature and location of this region helped it to gain recognition, so the city quickly became a popular resort destination. Vacationers from New Jersey and Pennsylvania became the first guests in this new “Atlantic Paradise”. Later, numerous tourists from Philadelphia discovered this charming resort. These were mostly working-class people, so first infrastructure in Atlantic City was targeted at them.
Later, the first railway station appeared in the city. It helped to increase the number of guests in the city significantly. Every year, the popularity of Atlantic City was increasing. The settlement reached a peak in its development in the first half of the 20th century. Tourists liked affordable prices and the quality of services. Moreover, the city was continuously offering more and more entertainment every year. Copyright www.orangesmile.com
However, Atlantic City didn’t have only good moments in its history as there were some problems as well. In the middle of the 20th century, when World War II ended, many started forgetting about Atlantic City. Why did that happen? The reason is in the development of machine building in the country. More people could afford to buy a car, and so these people became less dependent on trains and more independent in choosing places to visit. Besides that, many cities developed neighborhoods that people could visit to relax on weekend. Only when Atlantic City legalized gambling and decided to build casinos in 1976, the city got its second birth.
Where can tourists relax in Atlantic City? Without a doubt, local beaches are perfect for spending some quality moments with the family or loved ones. Moreover, the beach is spacious and stretches along the city. This is truly the heart of Atlantic City. All tourists, who choose to spend their vacation here, prefer to spend as much time on the warm sand of the beach as they can. The place is always crowded, and life never stops here. Besides warm sun, which rays tenderly touch the skin, the beach offers stunning and relaxing ocean views.
The beach in Atlantic City has soft sand free of any trash because of regular cleaning. Every day, early in the morning when people are still in their beds, the city’s cleaning vehicles move on the beach and clean the sand carefully. The sand is completely replaced at the start of every season. Besides such a careful approach to cleaning, local authorities take the safety of all guests very seriously. Because of that, there are special outposts with rescue teams that keep an eye on everything what’s going on and help visitors in case of trouble.
Waterfront is the central part of Atlantic City. Moreover, it has an important role in the development of the settlement. In the past, when the resort was only developing, tourists were coming here to relax and sunbathe. Slowly, skyscrapers appeared along the waterfront. Eye-catching hotels and casinos were built along the coastline. When taking a stroll on the waterfront, you will be able to see these fantastic buildings with your own eyes. Like some mythical giants, these high-rise buildings protect the heart of the city. Inside there skyscrapers, there are gambling houses and hotels.
When you are in a mood for entertainment, visit Boardwalk Hall, one of the major attractions in the city. The size of the building is truly spectacular. Initially, it was built to host exhibitions. However, the complex was constantly growing in size, and so now it includes a concert hall that often hosts concerts of internationally famous stars, football and hockey areas, and various sports grounds for different kinds of sports competitions. In Boardwalk Hall, visitors can even attend organ music concerts – there is a separate hall for this. The organ with multiple pipes has made Atlantic City famous around the world and is even featured in the Guinness World Book of Records.
Atlantic City International Airport is not large, so it mostly accommodates flights from other cities in the United States. Philadelphia has some of the best-established air routes with the resort. Tourists from other countries may need to fly to a major airport in USA first. When in the US, tourists can choose different means of transport to reach Atlantic City. For example, it is possible to reach the resort from Philadelphia by train or bus.

Sights around Atlantic City from our guide 'Extreme places on Earth'

Ramapough Mountain Indians

From the series “Wildest Tribes Avoiding Civilization”
After the first broadcast of the film "eye for eye", the tribe immediately appealed against its creators. It is about the fact that all members of the Ramapo tribe are presented in the film as cruel and poor people, that does not really correspond to reality and offend the honor of the tribe. The population of the tribe is about 5,000 people. Ramapo people behave very kindly to others, and have formerly given shelter to the fugitive slaves. Nevertheless, the tribe still lives in isolation and avoids any innovations. The tribe does not want to "join" the society. … Read further

North Brother Island

From the series “Abandoned Places of the Earth with Distinct Marks of Civilization”
One of the first of contemporaries who wasn’t afraid of the tragic history of the island was the photographer Christopher Payne. In 2008, he has visited the island and made incredibly spectacular pictures of landscapes and dilapidated buildings. Since then, a number of those wishing to visit the island increased significantly. It’s not difficult to reach the uninhabited land. It is situated in the East River, only 350 meters off coast. … Read further

MetLife Stadium

From the series “Top 14 Sport Stadiums with Impressive Design”
Remarkable that the stadium design first contained a very nice roof. However, it was not established because of the financing. MetLife is the only stadium without a roof in the world where the NFL games take place. As far as the benefits of the most stunning and largest stadium in the United States are concerned, one must definitely mention its first-class equipment. To make the game more comfortable, 400 monitors were attached to the stadium. The big screens are on all sides of the field. … Read further
