Travel Guide to Apeldoorn, Netherlands

A wonderful city, decorated by fantastic parks, magnificent old buildings and sights, Apeldoorn will be interesting to tourists as a historical place. Most often the visitors try to see all notable sights of this city. The leading position here occupies Paleis Het Loo. Many years ago this castle was a hunting residence of the royal family. The castle was changed a lot during the times of William III, who expanded its territory. Today the building stores the collection of the National Museum and a library. Here you can also attend the Museum of Chancellery that has in its collection many important documents and agreements.
The Apenheul Zoo was opened in 1971 and quickly became popular among visitors. This zoo is particularly famous for having over 30 breeds of monkeys. Moreover, all monkeys can move freely on whole territory of the zoo. The animals are absolutely not afraid of people and are very friendly.
If you like religious buildings, you should visit Protestant Church that suffered greatly from the fire in the end of the 19th century, but was renovated. National Park De Hoge Veluwe is one of the most beautiful places with rich historical heritage. During the times of the WWII the Canadian Royal regiment fought here.
