Sangha Trinational, Cameroon - Central African Republic - Congo

The Sangha Forest is probably the most unusual nature reserve in Africa. It is so vast that it lies in the territories of just three states - Cameroon, the Central African Republic and Congo. For this reason, the Sangha Forest is also often referred to as the Forest of the Three Nations. The largest part of the nature reserve is covered with evergreen rainforests, which serve as a gateway for exciting tourist hikes and important scientific researches.

On the territory of the nature reserve live many rare animals, including the Nile crocodile. The Nile crocodile lives in the Sangha river, which extends through the forest. Many rare species of predators also live in the same river. So scientists have discovered the Great Tiger Fish, whose body length can reach 1.3 meters. Among the safer inhabitants of the rainforests are the Wild elephant, gorillas and chimpanzees, different species of antelopes and buffaloes.

The natural splendour of the nature reserve is due in many respects to minimal contact with humans. Numerous researches of the district have shown that there are no large settlements next to the conservation area for several thousand years. People from a few tribes who visited the forest were mainly confined to hunting and gathering. Economic activity in the forest is still minimal.
