Is also very interesting and worth seeing.

Ancient Thebes Necropolis, Egypt Most of the monuments that can be seen on the territory of the Necropolis were erected in the period from the 22nd to the 12th century BC. Surprisingly, many of them have retained their original shape almost invariably after several thousand years. The most famous and significant sights of the historical complex are the Karnak and Luxor Temples, which are connected with each other by a beautiful avenue of Sphinxes. They are the most magnificent temple complexes and are located on the eastern coast of the Nile. Several thousand years ago, houses of the nobility and chic palaces were situated next to these temples. The sumptuous complex was surrounded by exotic gardens with rare plants.

A visit to the Karnak Temple, in which the column hall was perfectly preserved. In the hall one can see more than 130 columns, the height of which is 16 meters. The walls of the temple are adorned with fine and colorful bas-reliefs. In high season impressive light and music shows take place regularly in the ancient temple. Among the most interesting sights of the Necropolis we must also mention the tomb of Tutankhamun. This is the only crypt in the valley of the kings, which was not yet extinct in antiquity. The crypt was discovered in 1992. Next - Memphis Necropolis

Top destination around Ancient Thebes Necropolis - Luxor

In the past, the ancient Egyptian city of Waset existed on the land of modern Luxor. The Greeks called this city Thebes or “the city of the 100 gates” because Luxor was standing on the former capital of the Ancient Egypt – Thebes. The history of the old capital started in the 3rd century BC. Luxor became a major settlement yet in more than 2,000 BC. This is the time when pharaohs from the 11th Dynasty ruled in Egypt. A major period of prosperity and development started for this city in the 16th century BC.

When the Greek-Roman period started in the country and the capital was moved to Alexandria, Thebes didn’t lose its importance and remained one of the main cultural and religious centers of the Egyptian Kingdom. When the Arabs conquered the “treasure of the Nile”, the city got a new name – Luxor. During its long history, the city witnessed many important events in the timeline of the region. For example, Pharaoh Akhenaten was the first ruler who was encouraging Egyptians to worship only one god – Aton. In modern days, the river separates the city into “the city of the living” and “the abode of the dead”.
