Year: 1927. Height: 45 meters.
The wonderful Buckingham Fountain, located in Chicago on the territory of the picturesque Grand Park, is one of the most beautiful and impressive fountains in the world. The picturesque fountain Latona, located in the Palace of Versailles, was the prototype of the fountain in Chicago. The outline of the beautiful rococo-fountain is reminiscent of the huge wedding cake and is decorated with the original sculpture compositions.
The maximum height of the water column pushed out of the central nozzle of the fountain is 45 meters. A few years ago the ancient fountain was supplemented by an excellent illumination system and was taught to 'dance'. For the first time the fountain was connected in 1927. The construction of Buckingham Fountain cost 750,000 US dollars to the organizers. The author of the Fountain Idea was Kate Buckingham, who dedicated him to her deceased brother. The project of fountains was developed by Chicago's chief architect Edward Benneth. The sculptures were designed by the outstanding French painter Marcel F. Loyau.
The multifunctional fountain, the diameter of whose main basin forms 84 meters, is decorated with the interesting seahorse sculptures. For the design of the well the rare pink marble was used. The structure of the fountain is very symbolic. Its main pool symbolizes Lake Michigan and four groups of seahorses - four lakes surrounding the lake. The total volume of the water, which is constantly in the fountain, is about 5 700 000 liters. In the well there are 134 nozzles, from which more than 65,000 liters of water are ejected every minute. In the evening the wonderful fountain is illuminated with 840 colorful lamps.
