The Huli tribe is the most attractive, original and interesting clan among Papua New Guinea tribes. They are one of the largest cultural groups in the region, numbering approximately 150000. They actively contact with the modern world, are friendly to tourists and even take part in festivals and celebrations.
The Huli are grouped in clans and subclans. It is quite easy to distinguish them from other nationalities. The Huli people have their unique and colourful traditional body decoration and make colourful wigs from their own hair. Unmarried Huli men prepare themselves for adulthood in a unique way. They grow and style their hair in a special way.
When a grown man gets two or three wigs he has the right to choose a wife. Later, the tribal men wear those wigs only for special occasions. It is hard to imagine that the Huli are thought to be the most skilful and violent warriors as they are nice and pleasant people. They look really scary because of their outfit, when in fact they appear in conflict first in a very few cases.
