High Line Park, USA

From series “Top 16 Most Unusual and Original Parks and Gardens”
Year: 2009. Lenght: 2.33 km.

A lot of amazing picturesque parks wait for locals and foreigners in New York. The most unusual one in the district of Manhattan is the High Line. It was recently opened in the abandoned railway viaduct that was in ruins for more than a decade. Now, it is planted with live plants. There are nice shops. Large terraces offer a nice panoramic view of the surrounding streets.

High Line Park, USA Despite the fact that the railway line was closed in 1980, works on the conversion of a trestle began only in 2006, and the park opened in 2009. The unique green zone differs with an impressive scale. The length of the trestle is 2.33 kilometers. Since its opening, the High Line Park is very popular among locals and tourists. In the first five years of operation, it was visited by about five million people.

Many people come to the park to just sit on a bench on a sunny day. For others, it has become a favorite place for jogging. The trestle was never dismantled after the operation stopped running, so it can be considered a historical landmark. It was built in the 30s of the last century in order to remove freight trains from city streets. The height of the overpass is 10 meters, so the park provides excellent environment for admiring the surrounding scenery. The park is well equipped, it has several entrances with stairs and special elevators, so disabled people can visit the High Line Park too. Next - Passive House The Muse
