In 1995, the opening of one of the most spectacular urban parks of the planet called ACROS took place in Fukuoka. The history of the foundation of this unique park is very amazing. In 90s, the city authorities expressed a need to build a new office building. They managed to find a suitable place among the main streets of the densely built city. It was the place where there was the only park within district.
In order not to deprive the area of a single green oasis, experts of architectural company Emilio Ambasz & Associates decided to break up on the facade of an office building with a stepped live garden. In accordance with the project, the south side of the 14-storey building was transformed into the luxury stepped garden with live plants and shrubs. It features cozy seating areas with benches and gazebos. Spacious terraces offer a great view of the harbor and city streets, so they also act as an excellent viewing platform.
It’s important to note that it was managed to save a half of the old park during the construction of the office building. Together with landscaped frontage, the look is very harmonious. The area of the stepped garden is about 5 400 square meters. The park has more than 50 000 plants of 120 different species. All guests of Fukuoka can visit this unusual place; it’s admission-free. Convenient stairways are there to move between terraces.
