Year: 8 century. Lenght: 211 m. Width: 158 m .
A great number of ancient fortresses were saved in the word. One of the unique is Por-Bazhyn Fortress. You can find it in Republic of Tuva, Russia. Excavations suggest that it was built in the 8th century AD and has a precise planning and regular geometric forms. It is 211 meters long and 158 meters in width. The fortress has placed in a very remote area. Besides, it resembles an artificial island.
Note that during the rainy season the only possible way to get to the fortress is only by air. In other seasons the researchers use only off-the-road vehicles. The fortress was found in 1891, since that time the excavations practically don’t stop. For this time the researchers didn’t come to a common conclusion of the fortress usage. They still don’t know for what such big and unassailable fortress was built in the middle of the lake. A short time ago the researchers have found an outstanding similarity between the structure of both the fortress and the ancient town Karabalgasun in Mongolia.
It isn’t impossible that people who built this fortress were the predecessors of the ancient Mongolian town. During the period of the researching, there were found a lot of outstanding artefacts. This remote area was inhabited by people for quite a long period of time. Recent findings tell us about it. There were found iron nails, parts of stone and ceramic dishes and other household items. As a matter of the fact, there is no information about the Por-Bazhyn Fortress in the historical documents. When do people live in this fortress and why they have disappeared is still a mystery.
