The spectacular beach with a magic atmosphere can be found in California, on the coast of Big Sur. Pfeiffer Beach is also known to many travelers as the Rainbow Beach. It’s notable for its unique color of sand. The fact is that the sandy coast is framed by high cliffs that are rich in one of the varieties of pomegranate. During rains and tides, this mineral is washed out of the rocks and paints light-colored sand of the beach in various shades of purple.
The coast looks fantastic. It’s remarkable that scientists weren’t been able to find the secret of this natural phenomenon for many years. Only in the early 20th century, they realized that the cause of the unusual color of sand is the rare mineral, spessartine. The unusual beach is about 800 meters long. It’s not so easy for curious travelers to get there. This stretch of coast is framed by steep cliffs, so it’s better to get there by boat.
Travellers who are not afraid to do the hard way, will have an opportunity to enjoy a real alien landscape. The extensive coastline is dotted with boulders of various shapes and sizes. The coast is painted in vibrant colors from red to deep purple. At first glance, it may seem that someone has voluntary spilled an enormous amount of ink on the sand. Harmonious and fascinating patterns decorate the beach. It is also worth noting that pictures on the sand are changed every day, so Pfeiffer Beach always looks special.
