Aorounga Crater, Chad

From series “Largest Meteorite Craters on Earth”
The famous Aorounga crater, which is considered a unique structure, is situated in Africa, in the Republic of Chad. The thing is that Aorounga, most likely, is a triple structure formed as a result of multiple collisions of the planet and celestial bodies. The structure of the crater can only be seen on detailed radar images made by a satellite.

Aorounga Crater, Chad The place has clearly visible concentric circles that could be generated as a result of the numerous bumps and explosions. It’s important to note that this theory is quite realistic. It might be difficult to assume that three different asteroids have fallen in the same place. However, fragments of a celestial body that has exploded before, could fall into one area. That might result in a formation of unique concentric rings.

Under the assumption of scientists, the diameter of the celestial body was up to 2 km. Now, the diameter of the visible crater is 12.6 km. The dip was formed about 345 million years ago. Travellers who come to walk along the unique geological area can see incredibly picturesque sand dunes. Sand deposits in the crater area feature amazing orange color creating a spectacular Martian landscape. Next - Barringer Crater
