Year: 1993. Height: 210 meters.
The tourists, who are planning to visit Casablanca, are not to overlook the religious main attraction of Morocco, the Hassan II mosque. It is located in the incredibly beautiful terrain, on the coast of the Atlantic. One can find 105,000 people in the mosque and on the adjacent territory. The height of the only minaret of the mosque is 210 meters. The project of the unique mosque was designed by the architect Michel Pinseau.
His grandiose project was realized at the shortest deadlines. In only thirteen years the huge mosque was completely built and received the first faithful in 1993. The main particularity of the mosque is its location. It was not built on the natural coast, but on the artificial platform and is literally above the water. The floor of the mosque is made of the high-strength glass, so you can see through it the waves of the ocean and its underwater inhabitants.
The large halls of the mosque, estimated at 25,000 people, are decorated with fine marble and granite furnishings. In the central hall you can see the giant chandeliers created by the best Venetian masters. The tall pink granite columns, the floor with gold-colored marble, the magnificent onyx furnishings - the design of the mosque is really luxurious and yet natural. The entrance to the mosque criterion is not only for the Muslims, but also for those interested in what makes the Hassan II Mosque one of Morocco's most popular sights. For more than twenty years, the magnificent mosque has been the highest religious building in the world. Its highest minaret is adorned with marvelous mosaic and stone carving.
