The cathedral of Christ the Savior, located in Moscow, has been the religious landmark of Russia for several years, and a place where the most important services are held. The construction of Russia's largest religious building began in 1839. However, the cathedral was already completely destroyed in 1931. Its restoration lasted several decades. The cathedral was completed only in 1997.
The cathedral has a very unusual structure. Looking out of the bird's eye, the cathedral reminds us of a huge equilateral cross. The length of the cathedral side is 85 meters, and its height reaches 105 meters. The Cathedral of Christ the Savior can accommodate up to 10,000 people. Although this cathedral is in reality a modern religious building, its design is in no way connected with the present. Both the form of the cathedral and its interior are tribute to the beautiful Byzantine traditions.
The cathedral building is also a branch of the Moscow Historical Museum, so visitors have a chance to see a lot of interesting historical artifacts. Since opening, the main Orthodox relics, including the belt of the Mother of God, the gift of wise men and the cross Andreas exhibited in the main cathedral. Each time such events attract the pilgrims not only from all over the country, but also from many other Christian states. One can visit the beautiful cathedral also on the ordinary day. Each element of the cathedral furnishings is a true work of art and reminds visitors of the splendid traditions of the once majestic Byzantium.
