Grotte de Lascaux, France

From series “Forbidden Construction Objects with Label "Access Denied"”
On the territory of the south-western region of Perigord in France, a unique sight is located, the access to which have only few people. It is the cave of Lascaux. This cave was discovered in 1940 and is characterized by a variety of remarkable rock drawings. The main characteristic of the latter is that their age is from fifteen to seventeen thousand years. Archaeologists believe that their authors may be representatives of Solutrean culture.

Grotte de Lascaux, France The extent of the cave is quite large, the general length of all its corridors is about 250 meters. It is worth mentioning that the cave was opened for free visit ten years after its discovery. A huge number of visitors has contributed to a change in its microclimate and increased humidity. The walls of the cave began to be covered with a special kind of algae, which became the main threat to the destruction of priceless images. French authorities decided to restrict access to a unique cultural site.

The history of the discovery of the strange cave is incredibly interesting. It has been discovered by four local boys. They saw a small hole in the rock, which was broken by a pine fallen from a lightning strike. The boys hurried to the teacher to inform about their discovery. The first explorer of the cave was Henri Breuil, a historian who lived in the city and specialized in prehistory. After numerous researches about 1433 rock drawings were discovered in the cave, which mainly represent animals: bulls, mutton, deer, horses, etc. Next - Scientology Church Storage
