Taj-ul-Masajid is a mosque situated in Bhopal, India. “Taj-ul-Masajid” literally means “Crown Among Mosques”. It has been built during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafa and was finished only in 1985. For the building were chosen the most beautiful historical traditions of mosque building. One of the most unusual elements is the eastern gate decorated with the ancient motifs from circa.
Since the mosque was opened until nowadays in the daytime it is used as a madrasah. Notwithstanding that fact that the mosque has been built within more than 200 years, it is a very harmonious and beautiful building and quite complex from the architectural point of view. Its façade is painted in light rosy colour and the cupolas are decorated with nice marble. Inside the mosque is made from a beautiful marble. Many people visit the mosque to see its marvellous onion domes inside.
The mosque has a long corridor with wonderful columns. In front of the mosque, you can see a spacious square made by decorative stone, near the entrance, is placed a fountain with a huge pool. For a long time, the Mosque was unfinished because there wasn’t enough money to do it. Even the daughter of Bahadur Shah Zafa wasn’t able to finish the mosque decoration. After a long-lasting break in 1971, the mosque building was close to the finish. This wonderful mosque was built thanks to great efforts of Allama Mohammad Imran Khan Nadwi Azhari and Maulana Sayed Hashmat Ali Sahab of Bhopal.
