Sauna-Tram, Italy

From series “Most Extraordinary Thermaes, Baths and Saunas in the World”
In Milan you can also visit an unusual sauna, which has been opened in an old tram. The sauna is quite large and can accommodate up to ten people at a time. Sauna visitors are offered to relax by an unusual event - watching a documentary about the history of trams. A remarkable sauna and unusual location, it was installed on the dead-end branch of the old railway tracks.

Sauna-Tram, Italy It has been invented by local designers and has a deep psychological meaning. For many townspeople, public transport rides during peak hours is a great stress. So by opening a comfortable modern sauna in a tramcar, designers decided to help to get rid of such negative emotions of citizens. A tram is one of the main symbols for Milan. In the city there is one of the most ramified networks of tram tracks in Europe with a length of more than 160 km. Not surprisingly, the most original sauna in Milan has been opened in a vintage tram car.

Initially, the organizers wanted the sauna-tram to cruise the streets of the city, and its visitors could admire outstanding sights and the most beautiful streets of Milan. City authorities did not approve of such an initiative, and the sauna has been decided to be installed in one of the busiest districts of Milan, close to popular hotels and entertainment venues. Tourists, who expect another boring excursion in empty halls of the castle, will be surprised as the excursion would take them to mysterious old dungeons. Not far from the castle, there is Santa Maria delle Grazie Church that is internationally famous because of The Last Supper mural painting by Leonardo da Vinci that is located there. Several yards ago, an old passage connecting the both buildings was discovered. Before that, all stories about its existence were considered fake. The unique excursion hasn’t become famous yet, so not many travelers visit it. A walk in the dungeon lit by old torches is likely to be an unforgettable one.
