Sirkeci Gari Station, Turkey

From series “Top 14 Most Astonishing Railway Stations in the World”
Year: 1890.

Sirkeci Gari Station – an outstanding landmark building – is an adorable railway station in Turkey. This building was made in Ottoman architectural style in 1890. In the end of the 19th century there came the world-famous Orient Express train from Paris. As it was many years ago, the colourful stained-glass windows still decorate the building. The railway station has become the business centre of the city. The terminal building rises on an area of 1,200 square meters. The terminal restaurant became a meeting point for journalists, writers, artists and cultural figures.

Sirkeci Gari Station, Turkey Sirkeci Gari Station has never been rebuilt entirely. In the world, there are only several stations that were saved until our days in their original decoration. Thereby, we see the building as people two centuries ago. The railway station is situated in the centre of the historical Istanbul district. Therefore, it is included in many excursions programs. August Carl Friedrich Jasmund, the famous German architect, made the project for this station.

Earlier at this place were placed marvellous Ottoman villas and ancient fortress walls. All this was demolished before the building of the railway station. The scientists found this district very significant from the archaeological point. Under the station may be placed ancient ruins of the Constantinople. Sirkeci Gari Station is attractive not only for admirers of ancient architecture but also for gourmands. In the clock tower, the luxurious restaurant "Orient express" has been adoring people with its marvellous dishes and atmosphere for a number of years. Next - Estacion de Atocha

Many travelers consider Galata Köprüsü the best place for walking, but not many decide to look under the bridge. That’s a mistake as there’s much interesting there. The best fish restaurants in Istanbul are located under the bridge, and so these venues are sought after by foodies and travelers who prefer prestigious dining. Grilled fish remains the signature dish served at these restaurants. If you are used to tasting delicacies while listening to music, head to this part of Istanbul in the evening.

So now it’s clear where to find the best dinner, but what about breakfast? Indeed, it’s not that easy to find an unusual place for it. Romantic Tavan Arasi café in Fransiz Sokagi is a nice place to hide from numerous tourists. The café has a spacious terrace located on the roof of a historical building. The terrace can be reached by retro elevator. For a moderate price, visitors will be able to try magnificent national treats – Turkish dumplings with yoghurt, tuna salad, and, of course, fragrant Turkish coffee.
