The Andy Warhol Museum located in Pittsburgh is also a landmark of world importance. This cultural center is popular among all fans of pop art. The sight is the largest museum in the United States dedicated to a single artist. The museum was opened in 1994. It occupies a massive seven-storey building, which was built in 1913 and was previously used as a warehouse.
More than $12 million were spent on a conversion of the historic building. Opening of the museum was one of the most anticipated events in the cultural life of the state. Only during the first weekend after the opening, the museum was visited by more than 25 000 people. Now, it is annually visited by more than 100 000 people from all over the world. The area of the museum dedicated to one of the greatest artists of the 20th century is 8 200 square meters. There are 17 galleries that are constantly modified and reconstructed.
