Many important religious sites are located in Russia. Egituysky datsan is in the Republic of Buryatia, near the village of Egita. It was built in 1826. The main gem of the datsan is the Zandan Zhuu statue, Buddha made of sandalwood. According to a legend, it is the only statue made in Shakyamuni Buddha's lifetime. Its age is more than 2 500 years.
Egituysky datsan is very amazing in itself. It is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. It is located in an incredibly picturesque area, on the banks of the river Marakta, so it’s always recommended to include a walk around the neighborhood to a sightseeing tour. Many important historical facts are linked to the ancient datsan. Shortly after its opening, a typography was arranged on its territory. It was considered one of the most advanced in the country. It was famous because of special printing matrices for the Mongolian and Tibetan languages.
However, the main value of the ancient temple is the statue of Sandalwood Buddha, whose height is 2.18 meters. If it was really made more than 2.5 thousand years ago, the author of the sculpture is known for certain. It was one of Buddha's disciples, Vishwamitra. He carved a statue during sermons of his teacher. Vishwamitra couldn’t see Buddha, because he came from the dazzling light, so the student was gazing at the Buddha's reflection in the water. The Buddhist relic was moved to Egituysky datsan relatively recently, September 25, 1991. Prior to that, it was transported to various monasteries and exhibition halls, and kept in the museum of Ulan-Ude until 1991.
