Airport location, terminals and transportation
Salt Lake City International Airport is the main commercial airport of Utah. Both civilian and military aircraft make shared use of the air terminal. The airport is located a few kilometres from Downtown Salt Lake City. SLC was opened in 1911. It is among the oldest operating aviation facilities of the country. A site for an airfield was chosen on Basque Flats, where Spanish and French settlers had used to live. The air terminal evolved from a training facility and a mail air transportation base to the civilian airport with regular flights. During World War II, the airport was used as a military airbase. SLC received the status of the international airport in 1968.
The airport operates 4 runways and 2 helicopter pads. Passengers are served in 2 terminals, divided into 5 concourses, which are A, B, C, D, and E. Concourse D serves as an international terminal. SLC services about 22 million passengers every year. The airport handles a large number of general aviation flights.
The airport is connected to the city by TRAX light rail system, public buses number 453, 454, 551, taxis, limousines and hotel shuttles. Besides, the services of transport network companies (Uber and Lyft) are available here.
Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car
The airport features a wide range of vehicle rental companies. The following companies cooperate with the airport: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Fire fly, Hertz, National, Payless, and Thrifty. The car rental counters are placed on the ground floor of the parking garage, which is directly across from the terminal buildings. Both the terminals are connected to the parking garage by pedestrian walkways. The car rental facilities of such companies as Alamo, Avis, Budget, and National are open round the clock. Enterprise and Payless close at midnight. The rest of the companies serve customers until 1-2 a.m.
Furthermore, car rental agencies, whose facilities are found outside the territory of the airport, offer their services to its passengers. They provide a free shuttle service to the rental car pick-up location. These are ACE Rent-A-Car, Advantage, Silvercar, Fox Rent-A-Car, Rugged rental, and Airport van rental.
You can obtain the contact information of the car rental companies on the website of the airport or at the information desks in the arrival hall so as to specify the hours of operation of the office.

In the territory of Salt Lake City Airport, several types of parking are available in the parking garage next to the terminals. These are premium parking, hourly parking and short-term (daily) parking. A free shuttle service is offered for quick access to the long-term parking lot (the economy parking lot). Advance parking space reservation can be made through the website of the airport. Valet parking is provided on the 1st level of the parking garage, in the premium parking lot.
The desks with the information on the hotels, the availability of shuttle services to them and telephones are positioned in the arrival halls of the terminals. The nearest hotels which offer a free shuttle service are the Hyatt Place, the Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham, the Airport Inn Hotel, and the La Quinta Inn & Suites.
