Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport serves five US states, which are Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. It was opened in 1923, on the site where the racetrack had used to be situated. The airport was renamed several times. It got its present name, Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport/Wold-Chamberlain Field in 1948. Both commercial civil aviation and the United States Air Force make shared use of the airport. It features 4 runways. The annual passenger traffic of the airport amounts to 36-37 million people. It is built in the metropolitan area of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota.

The territory of the airport comprises two passenger terminals. One is the Lindbergh Terminal 1 and the other is the Humphrey Terminal 2. The Lindbergh Terminal 1 is divided into 7 concourses, which are A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. The Humphrey Terminal 2, in its turn, consists entirely of Concourse H.

The Hiawatha Light Rail Line goes from the centre of Minneapolis to the airport. It runs through both the terminals, in which there are separate stops. The light rail operates 24 hours a day. Passengers use this line free of charge to move between the terminals.

The Hub Building and the Transit Transportation Centre, located nearby, are the principal locations of interface between the various modes of transport. City and transit bus routes run from this Centre. Besides, taxi stands, light metro stops (the Blue line) and rental car pick-up locations are found there.

The following car rental companies offer their services to passengers of Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport: Advantage, Alamo, Enterprise, Hertz, Thrifty, Dollar, Budget, Avis, and National. The car rental facilities are positioned at the second and the third levels of the Lindbergh Terminal 1, between the red and blue parking ramps. In the Humphrey Terminal 2, the vehicle rental facilities are placed in the Ground Transportation Centre, opposite the terminal (the violet ramp level).

Payless and Sixt agencies lie outside the territory of the airport and that is why provide buses which take customers to their car rental offices. Buses of the companies depart from the Lindbergh Terminal 1 (from the Transit Transportation Centre, between the blue and red parking ramps). The Centre can be reached by underground tram. On arriving you should climb one level higher. Not all the agencies operate round the clock. You should contact the selected company in advance.

Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby

Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport offers several types of parking which are daily, hourly, and valet parking. There is ePark system, which helps not only save money, but also avoid queues at the entrance and exit from parking lots. This option is available in all the parking lots of the air terminal, except for the valet parking lot. Quick Ride Ramp parking is stationed near the Lindbergh Terminal 1. A free round-the-clock shuttle runs from it to the terminal.

The Inter Continental Hotel, offering a full range of services, is nestled in MSP. The hotel has its own security system checkpoint to the Lindbergh Terminal 1 (Concourse C).
