Besides museums and historical attractions, you can see a lot of beautiful monuments of the modern architecture in the city. One of the most beautiful buildings in the city is the skyscraper called Heritage Plaza built in 1984. It is 232 m in height. The skyscraper had been built for about 3 years. Since the start of construction and until 2002, the building had considered the most complex in Houston. Today, as many years ago, its facade lined with mirror tiles looks really incredible.
Another interesting architectural monument is the Houston Public Library located in the territory of the picturesque park. The building was built in 1854 and served as a lyceum initially. It was decided to open the library here in 1905. Today, it houses over 50 000 books. The Houston Public Library is distinguished not only by a wide range of rare books, but also by its luxurious vintage interior. Here, you can still see old furniture and antique decorative elements.
One of the most recognizable religious monuments in Houston is the Rothko Chapel that started to be projected in 1964. The chapel was built completely in 1971. Since its opening, it has had a status of an outstanding cultural center. Here, different cultural events, lectures and meetings concerning various modern cultural spheres are held. In 2000, the chapel was restored. Now, art exhibitions and music concerts are organized in it.
