Official Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (the other name is Honolulu International Airport) serves as a main airport in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. The airport is located 5 km from the center of Honolulu. This airport has the most intense traffic and services over 21 million passengers every year. The airport is used by civil and military aviation. The airport was founded in 1927 and was named after the US Air Force officer, John Rogers. In addition to four air-strips, the airport also accommodates seaplanes in its adjacent lagoon for 2 strips. Passengers are serviced in three terminals. You can take a free shuttle running between the terminals. Stops are marked with special signs. The airport got its name after American politician Daniel K. Inouye who had defended the interests of Hawaii for 5 decades.
From the territory of the airport, you can reach the city by buses #19, 20, and 31. Bus stops are situated at the roadside along the terminal on the second level (the arrival level). There are the stops of buses #9, 40, 42, 51 behind the airport. There is no railway connection to the city. At the airport, it is allowed to use the services provided by network transport companies, Uber and Lyft. Passengers can also take a shuttle transfer from «Roberts Hawaii express». They can take a taxi via the dispatch service or near the central baggage claim area. Transfers are open from 6 am to 22 pm.
Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car
At the airport, there are the following big car rental companies: Advantage, Avis, Hertz, Budget, Enterprise, and National. Their information stands servicing clients are situated in the arrival concourse, in the baggage claim area.
Cars are taken and returned to the parking lot P2, to special places for rented cars. The parking area is located opposite Terminal 2. Cars are returned to the same parking lot. At the entrance to parking, it is necessary to follow the pointers to the car return. There are service points in the garage, at the first level.
Companies offer to book a car in advance. You can do this on the website of the airport or use any online service for renting cars.
Also, the airport cooperates with five car rental companies. Their offices are located in the territory of the airport. These companies (A-1, Alamo, Dollar, Thrifty, Jn) offer a free transfer from the exit from the baggage claim area (the ground level). At shuttle stops, there are the signs to car rental.
Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby
In the territory of Honolulu International Airport, there are long-term and short-term parking lots: an international garage, garages P1 and P2, and a parking lot P3. In the garages, long-term and short-term parking is offered. At the airport, the parking for less than 15 minutes is free.
