Airport location, terminals and transportation
Chicago Midway International Airport is the second largest airport of international status in the state of Illinois. It was built in 1923 for the purpose of mail transportation. Since 1928, the airport has been serving not only commercial cargo, but also passenger transportation. The airport was renamed in 1949 to commemorate the Battle of Midway. Its previous name had been Chicago Municipal Airport. It encompasses five runways and three concourses, integrated with the main terminal. The airport is capable of servicing about 23 million passengers per year.
Located in the territory of Chicago, the airport is connected with the city by taxi, limousine and shuttle. At the airport, you can take advantage of the services ordered by means of Rideshare company's application. If you wish to use public transport, you should choose the Orange Line Train or the CTA bus, the Pace Bus.
Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car
One can hire a vehicle at Chicago Midway International Airport through the common centre, where all the car rental companies are concentrated. This centre is located at the following address: Midway's Rental Car Facility 5150 W. 55th Street. A rental car collection point is found next to the economy parking garage. In order to get in the shuttles, which take customers to the car hire and collection point, the arriving passengers should proceed from the baggage claim area to the exit from the arrival hall. Clients are picked up by the shuttles, going to the car rental centre, near Gate 3 (the lower level). The shuttle service is available round the clock. The centre features nine international major vehicle hire companies. These are Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, Enterprise, National, Thrifty, and Corporate.
There are information desks with the contact details of the car rental firms in the arrival hall, so that the customers may clarify some information about the availability of models and tariffs for the services, provided by the companies. This information can also be found on the official website of the airport. The leased cars are returned to the parking lot of the car rental office in the airport, if some other car return location is not specified in the rental agreement. The office works 24 hours a day. One should find out the work schedule of the representative office of a certain firm in advance.
