Medina is the most popular and most visited area of Tunisia. Many beautiful buildings from different periods in the history of the country have been preserved here. Medina attracts with its colorful street markets. You can purchase jewelry made of silver and natural stones, as well as plenty of popular souvenirs. During the colonial period, several gates have been built in this historic district. They have survived to this day. Bab el Bahr Gate is the most beautiful one. Medina is a great place for hiking. Its best souvenir shops are found on Gemma e Zaytoun Street.
There are several interesting sights on the territory of the New City, including the beautiful Saint Vincent de Paul Cathedral. It is the largest of the remaining buildings of the colonial period. The facade of the cathedral is designed in the best traditions of the Neo-Romanesque style. The cathedral was built at the end of the 19th century by the French. Its interior design has remained almost unchanged.
