Chiang Rai, Thailand: Hatchback Rental
The most popular models representing the mini, compact, and economy car segments in Chiang Rai are: Chevrolet Cobalt, Chevrolet Matiz, Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Aveo, Hyundai Accent, Renault Modus and others.

When hiring a budget hatchback, it is definitely worth saving on insurance deposit (franchise). Deposits on small cars in Thailand vary from 100 to 1.000 euro/dollars. Check the rental conditions of each car in your selection to find a vehicle with a minimum deposit.

If your routes in Thailand are foreseen to pass through hilly areas or mountains, it is not recommended to consider very small cars for rental. Their engines are usually insufficient for a confident driving on the roads with long or steep climbs.

At the rental office in Chiang Rai, consider to take a 'Breakdown Assistance' package or ask an officer for a contact data to use in case of a vehicle breakdown. Cheap cars are sometimes unpredictable in operation.

Driving Advices for Thailand – Traffic Regulations and Road Usage Peculiarities
Previous hints
While driving, it is very important to keep the distance. This simple measure of caution will help you prevent numerous accidents. In Thailand, you will often see dogs appearing suddenly on the road. These animals have become the reason for many accidents on local roads. By the way, local pedestrians are as bold and unpredictable as motorists.
The observance of the speed limit is no less important. During your first several days in Thailand, it is not recommended to exceed the speed of 40 km/h, even if the road type allows fast driving. If may be very hard to find the right way on the road when driving at a high speed, while excessive slowness will be, most likely, noticed by no one.
You will see numerous fans of fast driving on roads of Thailand. Foreign drivers are recommended to stay away from these speed racers. As a rule, these drivers choose the extreme right lane, so it is safer to keep as close to the extreme left lane as possible.
