Ticino has amazing cultural traditions; natives gladly explain them to foreign visitors. The most anticipated and well-known national holiday is Festa d'autunno; it is held in early October in Lugano and usually lasts for three days. The festival is a unique mix of gastronomic, cultural, sports and educational activities; there is a special entertainment program for young guests too.
The festival always includes young wine tasting, cooking classes and art exhibitions. Many leisure activities are held in the open air and are absolutely free; anyone can visit great concerts and watch performances of folk bands. Those fond of gastronomic events are recommended to visit the central part of the city during the festival, as restaurants located there offer their customers a special holiday menu.
Ticino is well known to travelers who are fond of art and painting; it is even called ‘the land of artists.’ These places have always attracted painters with their picturesque nature. Many contemporary artists and architects have also found creative inspiration in local landscapes. During the year, there are many interesting cultural events and festivals dedicated to contemporary art and cinema.
