In the 19th century, the gorgeous mansion was abandoned. The last major reconstruction began in 1907. Several years ago, the royal residence was opened to tourists. Several amazing cultural and architectural sites can be found on its territory. Besides the palace itself, the complex includes the court theater, which was opened in 1776. The theater managed to save a part of the old architectural elements and equipment. Great performances are held there these days.
There are amazing Chinese houses in the garden. They were built in the mid 18th century, when Europe was keen on Chinese architecture. The French baroque park decorated with fountains and exquisite bronze sculptures deserves special attention. During the reign of King Gustav III, the English garden was laid out around the palace. It also managed to survive to the present day. Artificial ponds with a system of canals and bridges decorate the space there.
