Great gastronomic festivals are also held in Sint Maarten. Among them is the event Les Mardis de Grand Case. Despite the fact that the independence of the Antilles was obtained back in 1833, the Islanders are very proud of their culture. The colonial countries had a great influence on this – the locals are reminded of this by the city of Grand Kaz (French part of the island) at the end of July. During the celebration, a fair is opened, where you can purchase farm products, as well as works of art. The fest is held in the central streets of the resort town.
On the 11th of November, islanders make merry everywhere – the fact is that it is on this day that travelers headed by Christopher Columbus, set foot on the paradise land of Sint Maarten. The holiday in honor of the discovery of the island is celebrated with bright festivities and processions. The most interesting events take place in large resorts. In November, an interesting gastronomic event called Flavors of Sint Maarten Food & Wine Festival also takes place in Philipsburg. During the fest, chefs from all over the island present their best delights, all so that visitors can appreciate the great taste of local cuisine. Venues for the festival include large restaurants in the coastal region of the capital of the Dutch part of Sint Maarten.
