Merida is a unique city from historical and cultural points of view. In Roman times, one of the largest and richest cities was located on its territory, and some of its monuments have been preserved to this day. Now they are recognized as a world historical heritage. Such a rich history of the city could not but affect the cultural traditions of its inhabitants. The inimitable festival Emérita Lúdica dedicated to the traditions of Ancient Rome is held in Merida every year.

It was first held about ten years ago and has been organized annually in the first half of June since then. The event dedicated to ancient culture lasts 8 days and is visited by more and more foreign guests every year. Entertainment events are attended by professional historians and archaeologists, artists and designers, as well as local folk groups. For several days, guests of Merida plunge into the amazing atmosphere of ancient times, fascinating tours of iconic historical sites are held for them.

An important part of the festival is a traditional fashion show whose participants wear splendid costumes of ancient times. Among the ruins of the ancient amphitheater, gladiatorial fights and theatrical performances are staged, solemn marches of legionaries pass through the streets. Many local hotels and restaurants take an active part in the festival, creating special interiors in a historical style.
