Airport location, terminals and transportation
Changi International Airport is the main airport in Singapore and a large air hub in the Southeastern region. The air hub is located in the territory of the namesake business district, 17 km from the business center of the city. The airport was built in 1981 and is not only a large center of air transportation. Every year, it serves over 45 million people. Also, the airport is a large center of cargo traffic. It also contributes much to the national economy. The airport was built near the military airbase in Changi, in the eastern part of the island. At the airport, there are three passenger terminals, a budget terminal for low-cost companies, and a terminal for VIP passengers. Three air-strips serve airplanes. Passenger terminals are united, so passengers can easily move between them on travelators, by Skytrain, or by foot. You can move between remote terminals and Terminal 2 by taking a shuttle transfer.
From the airport, you can travel to Singapore and its suburbs by train, bus, taxi, limos, and transfers. From the airport, you can also travel to the city by the following buses: 24, 36, 34, 110, 27, 53, 858. Bus stops and taxi ranks are located near all the major terminals (T1, T2, T3).
Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car
At Changi Airport, there are several official large car rental companies: Avis, Budget, Sixt, Hertz, Thrifty. The companies’ offices are located in the Arrival terminals. In Terminal 1, there are the following companies’ offices opposite to baggage conveyor belts (between the 19th and 20th belts): Avis, Budget, Sixt. In Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, there are the following companies’ offices: Avis, Budget, Hertz, Thrifty.
In the budget terminal, such companies, as Avis and Budget, serve passengers. The single service point of these companies is open from 7 am to 11 pm.
Cars are returned to the parking lot near the terminal where the car was taken. The companies do not limit the car mileage. The additional equipment (child seats, navigators, and other accessories) is paid separately. The rental cost includes insurance and taxes. Car rental companies have the following requirements for the driver: age above 25 years, driving experience 1 year.
All the car rental companies presented at the airport provide an opportunity to pre-order a car by telephone (the number is specified on the airport website) or via online order forms.
Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby
At Changi Airport, there are five parking lots: parking areas near Terminal 1 and 2; two lots near T3; lots 4A and 4B; the southern economy parking area between T2 and VIP terminals. You can park a car in any parking area for no more than 10 minutes for free (for arrival and departure).
Near Terminal 3, there is the multi-storey hotel Crowne Plaza. City buses run from the airport to hotels located in the city center. In the main terminals of the airport, there are the rooms of Ambassador Transit Hotel where you can use the services during your short-term transit stops at the airport.
