Walking in the centre of Moscow, you can hardly imagine that among the stone streets and traffic, there’s a romantic corner of nature hiding nearby. At Chistye Prudy, there’s an old Soviet dovecote that managed to survive to the present day. It’s like a real mini-zoo now. It’s located on Makarenko Street, near house 8. Besides different pigeon breeds, you can also see an unusual inhabitant here — a pheasant.
Like walking around uncrowded places and admiring unusual modern architecture? Then you’ll like the Centipede House, that is house 34 on Begovaya Street. The main feature of the construction is that it’s supported by 20 pairs of concrete supports narrowing to the foundation, which makes it look very fragile. In fact, the building is very firm and solid. It’s surrounded by nice alleys and footpaths. The unusual construction serves an important purpose: the arches create a kind of a window under the house, which ventilates the air naturally and prevents exhaust emissions from the surrounding streets collecting here.
