Humberto Delgado Airport, also known simply as Lisbon Airport or Lisbon Portela Airport, is an international airport located 7 kilometres from the city centre of Lisbon, within the city. The airport was founded in 1942 and is considered the largest one in Portugal. The air terminal encompasses two runways, three passenger terminals and one military terminal. The passenger terminals are connected by free shuttles. The passenger traffic of LIS makes up more than 18.5 million people per year.
Ground transportation options to Lisbon include metro, buses, taxis, car sharing and shuttle services as well as rental cars. Taxi stands are positioned near the passenger terminals. Public buses number 208, 705, 722, 744, and 783 run between Lisbon Airoport Station and the city centre. It should be mentioned that buses do not run at night. The easiest way to reach the railway terminal, the bus terminal as well as the hotels is to take the Aerobus, which departs from the car park at the airport. Aeroporto Metro station is situated next to Lisbon Portela Airport.
