Haneda Airport is Tokyo's airport of international significance, lying in Ota ward. It is considered the second airport, operating in the air space of Tokyo. The airport mainly services domestic flights as well as charter flights on the following international routes: Seoul, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. Its passenger traffic makes up about 80 million people per year. The airport started functioning in 1931. In 1945 it served as the United States air base. Since 1958 it has been under the jurisdiction of Japan. The airport comprises 3 terminals and 4 runways. There are no restrictions on red-eye flights.
The airport is connected to the city by a railway and a monorail. One railway station is located in the airport between the terminals and 3 monorail stations are in each terminal. To utilise the taxi services, you should contact the cab dispatcher in the station square on the ground floor of the terminal. Moreover, several scheduled and charter buses go from the airport to the city. The signs and detailed instructions on how to get to the bus stops on the ground floor are found in the arrival area on the second floor. Shuttles run between the terminals, which are situated at a considerable distance from each other.
