Airport location, terminals and transportation
Kansai International Airport is situated in the middle of Osaka Bay near the city of Osaka, 5 kilometres off the Honshu shore. The airport is built on the artificial island. The island is linked to the mainland by a double-deck bridge. The airport was opened in 1994. The air terminal encompasses two runways and two terminals. Passenger Terminal 1 is considered the main one. Terminal 2 is a low-cost carrier terminal. Terminal 2 building is connected to the Main Terminal and the railway station by free shuttle buses. Kansai International Airport services about 18 million people a year.
In spite of the fact that the airport is located on the island, the city can be reached from here by several means of transport, which are bus, train, taxi or car. The railway station is positioned next to Terminal 1. Buses, trains and express trains go not only to the city of Osaka, but also to the nearest localities. Furthermore, shuttle buses depart from the air terminal to the hotels which are nestled in the city. One can get from KIX to Kobe Airport by high-speed ferry. Buses run between the terminal and the pier.

Travellers should find out the working hours of the companies' representative offices beforehand. It should be noted that such companies as NISSAN rent a car, Toyota Rent-A-Car, Orix Rent-A-Car, and Times car rental do not operate at night. Nevertheless, the representative office of Nippon Rent-A-Car is open 24 hours a day.
