8. Road signs are extremely rare on roads of Jamaica. Roads located in the country may have no road signs at all, so if you plan to make a trip to an unfamiliar area, it is better to do that together with a local guide.
9. When it comes to describing the quality of roads, the main roads in the country are quite good and comfortable. Their condition is far from perfect, but at least they will not cause any considerable inconvenience to drivers. Country roads can be quite complex, most often these are dirt roads with lots of sharp turns, climbs and descents.
10. Motorcycles and mopeds remain a common mode of transport in Jamaica. Sometimes you will see cyclists on the road. Just like car drivers, motorcyclists are not distinguished by strict following traffic regulations.
11. When driving, you need to control the situation as much as possible. Look around all the time because local drivers can easily make most unexpected and unpredictable maneuvers. They often move from one lane to another, can cut in front of other vehicles, move on the oncoming traffic lane, stop in the middle of the road and turn in the wrong place.
12. When travelling on roads of Jamaica, make sure to fasten seat belts. None of locals follows this rule, but foreign drivers are recommended to do that for their own safety.
13. It is not recommended to drive on roads of Jamaica at night. As it has been noted above, even in the dark cars can move on a highway with the lights turned off. Country roads often have no lightning at all, and this fact makes the situation even more complicated.
