A picturesque Alpine city, Briancon never ceases to attract new visitors with its unique landmarks and beautiful nature. Despite the fact that Briancon is famous primarily as an Alpine resort, guests of the city shouldn’t neglect an opportunity to visit many interesting places and attend various excursions. The church still has fabulous frescos, the age of which is more than five hundred years.
A visit to the Francis I fountain is also included in every excursion in Briancon. The gorgeous fountain was also built in the Middle Ages. For many, Briancon is a synonym of numerous ancient military fortifications. The main symbol of the city raises proudly on a high hill. It is important to mention that the historic part of the city got its look thanks to efforts of Vauban, famous military engineer. It was he who guided a large scale reconstruction of the citadel in the 17th century. It was transformed into a beautiful fortress that remains one of the most famous protective facilities of the country.
