The locals are very cheerful regardless of age, and local citizens live an active life. Even the elderly rarely spend time at home, they can be found during walks in the streets, in local parks, and in the evenings-in popular pubs. The latter has also become an important symbol of Manchester, the most famous pubs are located near the main historical square. Despite a large number of tourists and foreign students in the city, a significant part of the visitors to these pubs are local residents. They come here after a hard working day to meet friends and family, as well as drink a glass of their favourite beer.
During the year, the city hosts many interesting festivals and carnivals. The main part of them falls in the summer period. In summer, there is no so much rain in Manchester. So the most large-scale street festivals are held here during three summer months. Since 2007, the city has been a permanent venue for the International festival of culture, which is attended by representatives from dozens of countries. The festival includes musical concerts, theatrical performances and film screenings, as well as programs dedicated to other areas of contemporary culture. For a few days, Manchester turns into a huge open-air stage, the main part of the festival's events are arranged in open areas right on the city streets. In recent years, various charity processions have become widespread, the events are often arranged by local students. The funds collected in the framework of such events are transferred to various charity foundations.
