The main symbol of big port city is historical docks, which were constructed in 1194. Today several beautiful old ships are moored there and every ship has own amazing history. One of them is flagship “Mary Rose”. It was built in 1509 and belonged to fleet of Henry III. Next to it there is another flagship – “Victory”. In 1805 it had a part in battle near Trafalgar Square, admiral Nelson won the battle exactly on this ship.
The first cruiser in the world “Warrior” is moored in docks too, it was built in 1860. District of docks is one of the favorite walking places for tourists, it is possible to look at the moored ships for a whole day. Not far away from harbor there is historical district, where a lot of interesting architectural monuments are kept.
The great building is Moffat-Ladd house. It was built in 1763 and has been kept until the present days in its primeval appearance, this beautiful building is excellent example of so-called federal style, which was prevalent in Portsmouth on the boundary of 18-19 centuries. In several steps from the house there is Wentworth-Gardner-house, which is interesting to in architectural point of view.
