A beautiful old street starts just near the cathedral. Make a walk along it and you will reach the building of the City Hall. The building is also a very interesting sight from an architectural point of view. There is a no less important destination for excursions near the City Hall - the bridge of Alte Mainbrücke. Architecture connoisseurs will certainly notice similarities with another famous place of interest - the famous Charles Bridge located in Prague. Right behind the bridge begins the territory of majestic Marienberg Castle, which is also one of the oldest buildings in Wurzburg.
The ancient city started to form around this fortress. For a long time the main fortress was used as the episcopal residence. It lost its important status only in the beginning of the 18th century, when Residenz Palace was built. The territory of the fortress still keeps a well-preserved system of bastions, a lot of various buildings and Marienkirche Church. There are several spacious observation platforms near the castle that provide simply dramatic views of the historic part of the city. Wurzburg suburbs are also home to a huge number of various interesting attractions. Here tourists are recommended to visit Veitshöchheim Palace with its extensive parks and gardens, and the ancient city of Nuremberg.
