An important point of tour programs around the city is the ancient Alte Brücke. It is one of the oldest bridges of Saarbrucken. The bridge was created in the middle of the 16th century to connect two rapidly expanding urban areas. Originally, it numbered 14 arches. During the war years, six of them were destroyed. After the war, the bridge was reconstructed. At present, it is open to pedestrians and is used for legitimate purposes. It is best to admire the ancient construction at night, when it is decorated with spectacular illumination.
The ancient Kirkel Castle, located in the vicinity of the city, has the status of an important cultural center nowadays. The fortification itself was built in the 11th century, many of its elements have remained unchanged. Part of the ancient castle is occupied by a historical museum. It contains a rich collection of medieval sculptures and paintings, as well as other priceless artifacts. In some rooms are interesting craft workshops, where you can watch famous masters at work and purchase excellent souvenirs.
The city maintained St. Elizabeth Chapel, created in the 13th century. During the years of existence, it repeatedly changed its status. For a long time there located a hospital. Now, religious services are conducted in it again. Many are attracted by organ music concerts.
