Not far from the city center is the charming Prinsentuin Park surrounded by numerous canals. A large complex of defensive structures was once located on the site of the park, but with the advent of peace, it lost its original significance. All the structures were dismantled to arrange a wonderful English landscape park instead. The park is adorned with beautiful trees brought from various parts of the world and a lake with a fountain in the middle. There is no better place for relaxing in a peaceful atmosphere and leisurely walks. Today, one of the most popular restaurants in town is open here. In summer, vacationers are offered boat rides on the city's canals.
The city also offers AquaZoo Friesland, a wonderful aquarium where visitors can see rare inhabitants of the North Sea. The AquaZoo houses a large indoor pavilion with aquariums presenting the rarest deep-sea fauna. A large outdoor area with swimming pools located here became home to fur seals. Interesting shows are held for visitors every day, they are also told about the features of marine fauna and the main environmental problems of our time.
Tourists visiting the city in the warm season shouldn't miss the opportunity to take part in exciting boat tours. The city has several specialized companies organizing this kind of tours.
