Fans of classical music in Leipzig will be interested to visit another place – the Mendelssohn House Museum. In the city, there is an old house in which Felix Mendelssohn spent the last years of his life. In the historical building, the atmosphere of the past was kept as much as possible. Here, the belongings of the famous composer, his letters and various historical documents were preserved.
One of Leipzig's most unusual attractions is the Auerbach’s Kellar, located in the heart of the historic district. This ancient restaurant was opened in the first half of the 15th century. The first mention of it dates back to 1428. Then there was a small tavern in which they sold wine. This iconic tavern is mentioned in the story of Goethe. It was here, according to the author, that the meeting between Faust and Mephistopheles took place. World-renowned reformer, Martin Luther loved to spend time in this restaurant. Today, the historic restaurant is one of the most prestigious in the city.
In the Market Square, you can see the historic Alte Waage Building. It was completely destroyed during the Second World War. Earlier, in this beautiful building was the Chamber of Weights and Measures. In the 60s of the last century, the building was reconstructed according to old mock-ups and today, it is one of the most unusual in the city.
