Admirers of contemporary art will like the State Art Gallery, located in the center of the historical district. The building itself which houses the museum, is of great historical value. It was built in 1846. The collection of the museum is unique, and many of its exhibits are more than 500 years old. The collection of medieval engravings and pictures brought from various European countries are presented in it. On the territory of this museum, there is a small greenhouse, which is used for exhibitions of contemporary art.
An interesting historical symbol of the city is the Castle of Gottesaue. It was built on the site of an ancient Benedictine abbey. The construction of the castle began in 1588 and lasted nine years. During the long history of the castle, it was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. In 1818, it was converted into a barracks, and in the first half of the 20th century, it housed a multi-apartment building. The historical building was badly damaged during the Second World War. The castle was completely restored only by 1982. Currently, the castle is the location of a musical institute.
