There is a number of interesting family houses preserved in Augsburg, among them the house-museum of Bertolda Brehta - the famous writer. This historic building was built in the 16th century and is a classic example of national architecture. In this house in 1898, was born Evgeniy Bertold Friedrich Brecht, whose life and work is now illustrated in the dedicated museum in this building. It was opened in 1998 on the 100th anniversary of the writer's birth. Today in the museum there is an interesting collection of personal belongings of the writer, and even works of art and antique furniture.
One of the most spectacular monuments of architecture is Coat of Arms, it was built in the early 16th century. Today, the main feature of the historic building are spectacular sculptures. They depict the Archangel Michael, that plunges Satan. Until 1895 the historic building was used as an arsenal, and in the late 19th century it was converted into a fire station. The historic building was badly damaged during the Second World War; its restoration was completed only in the 80s of the last century. Today the historical building is transformed into an exhibition hall, which hosts a variety of cultural events.
