The city’s busiest street, Marktplatz or Market Square, is one big attraction in itself. Cafes, restaurants, shops, old burgher houses located here, all arouse a certain atmosphere of tranquility and serenity. Haus Löwenstein is considered the oldest burgher house in the city and its construction dates back to the year 1344. Moving a little further along Rathaus, you can find Katschhof, which is another ancient square with many architecturally interesting buildings.
Aachen is famous for its magnificent fountains. In addition to the fountain with the image of Karl the Great, there is another interesting one called Puppenbrunnen in the city of the Father of Europe. It is located not far from Katschhof and is a prominent landmark. Kreislauf des Geldes by Karl Henning Seemann is a very symbolic sculptural composition signifying the continuity of monetary flow. The sculptures represent the evils of humankind such as greed, beggary and bribery. Fischpüddelchen is some sort of adornment of the Fischmarkt. By the way, there is another building here considered attractive in terms of architecture, and it is called Grashaus. Those who love little “creepy” sculptures will appreciate the Bahkauv Fountain.
