Some restaurants and cafes of Aachen have been open for more than a hundred years, so they have already become landmarks of this wonderful city. Van den Daele is one of these historic cafes. Travelers will find it not far from the Aachen Cathedral. This café has a very interesting history. It was founded by Leo Van den Daele, a famous confectioner. He was born in Ghent, in a renowned aristocratic family, but he was forced to move to Aachen at the end of the 19th century.
Here, in 1890, the confectioner opened a small café that now resembles a true museum. The cafe has significantly grown in size since its opening, so now it occupies four halls of the building. The dining establishment still has fragments of the original design. All halls of the café are decorated with unique antiquities and interesting artworks.
Just like many years ago, visitors of Van den Daele can choose from a broad range of signature cakes and pies that look and taste heavenly. Many signature desserts are still cooked in accordance with the original recipes invented by the founder of this famous café. The historic confectionery has long become one of the most famous and popular dining venues of the city. Despite that fact, the prices are still quite affordable. A gorgeously looking cake costs approximately 2.5 euro.
